Applications for this year’s South West Residential are now CLOSED. Applicants will be contacted on the 7 June – please ensure your teacher has completed a support form, found below.
The South West Residential is an annual visit, taking place on Tuesday 27th – Thursday 29th June in 2017, aimed at high-achieving Year 12 students from state schools in Cornwall, Devon, and Dorset who want to find out more about life at Cambridge as an undergraduate! All accommodation, meals and activities are provided free of charge, and Downing also reimburses travel expenses up to £150.
Attending students have the opportunity to:
- participate in academic taster sessions such as supervisions and lectures;
- meet with Directors of Studies, Admissions Tutors and current undergraduates;
- learn more about the admissions and interview processes;
- explore the city of Cambridge, other Colleges, and University departments;
- enjoy a punt tour of Cambridge and join in with other social activities.
“It has cleared a lot of misconceptions and really showed me what it is truly like…much more helpful than any other events I have been to so far.”
“I found the meeting with the Director of Studies particularly useful; it was great to meet the person who would be teaching me and also had a particular interest in the area I want to study.”
“The South West Residential has made applying and getting a place at Cambridge seem more achievable and a realistic goal for me.”
“It was great to see first-hand the individuality and character of the different Colleges – the Cambridge experience is tailored to suit you!”
